words from the creator:
This piece is focused on how women-- especially women of color-- are more commonly misdiagnosed and not taken seriously by the health care system. Women’s health is frequently taken advantage of because of the stereotype that they are sensitive and emotional. Being misdiagnosed with menstrual pain when a much more serious illness is at play is unfortunately commonplace. This is a big issue in our system, and it needs to be addressed before any more innocent lives are lost. Healthcare professionals need to be taught how to diagnose and treat women, men’s care should not be the standard. This piece is more specifically focused on how heart disease is the number one silent killer in women.
