“God is a woman” by Ariana Grande highlights female sexuality and is emphatically becoming a part of mainstream media altogether. Her badass title and use of lyrics is a take on the idea that her sexual partner will “believe God is a woman” when she’s finished with him.

 

The song not only encourages women to embrace their sexuality, but it creates conversation regarding the gender of “God” and whether they are a he or she. “God is a woman” discusses the sexual power of a woman and how it’s so strong that by the time a male and female couple are finishing their intimate acts, the male’s conception of how God is perceived as an individual would be changed. That being said, the salacious nature of the song is what many people might call blasphemous.

Not only does the song encourage a woman’s sexual liberation and hints at the message that men must learn to appreciate a woman’s body more, but also how strong a woman is. The line “I can be all the things you told me not to be,” corroborates the idea of how women are constantly oppressed and told what they can and can’t do, be and not be, by men.

The lyrics "See if you deserve what comes next" are strong-- showing just how confident Ariana Grande is — which leads to the idea that her partner should be grateful to be in the presence of her sexual power. 

 

Lyrics such as “…if you confess, you might get blessed, see if you deserve what comes next” alludes to the blessing of bearing a child, as in the music video the line is sung while Ariana Grande is growing a baby bump. The song could best be described as a modern power ballad not only to a lover, but to the individual themselves. “God is a Woman” is a reminder to everyone that women are powerful and deserve to be respected.
