On Tuesday, January 26th around 4:30 PM, Dr. Bharat Narumanchi, a pediatrician who was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer, shot and killed Dr. Katherine Dodson, a pediatrician at Children’s Medical Group in Austin, Texas. Austin police received a report of a man with a gun who was holding people hostage. There were no patients there, only 5 employees. Narumanchi told hostages to tie themselves up, some of which escaped and others were let free. Unfortunately, Dr. Dodson was not able to escape.  According to the police department’s news release, Dr. Narumanchi shot himself after shooting Dr. Dodson.

Dodson joined CMG as a pediatrician in 2017, the medical center's website said. She was a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and was married with three children. "She has the nicest bedside manner," Michelle Sweitzer told KEYE. "She tells your children, 'I love you' and puts them at ease and is the sweetest, kindest caring doctor." Dr. Dodson has been described as the most loving, kind, caring pediatrician who truly loved what she did. Not only was she an amazing pediatrician, but she would also check in with the parents. She related to her patients, which formed personal deep connections. She was purely joyful, had the most infectious laugh, and did not take herself too seriously, her patient  Lindsay Zausmer Feuerman states.

My condolences go out to those who have been affected.

Dr. Dodson will never be forgotten
