Throughout all societies of the world, abortion has always been a controversial subject for many reasons. A few reasons being religion, the life of the unborn, and the father’s choice. In some states and countries, abortion is even illegal or severely restricted. In many states like Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, and Kentucky along with 13 other states, abortions are severely restricted. These 18 states where abortion is critically restricted (except for Wyoming) have an average of a 37.8 hour wait period, meaning you have to wait a certain amount of hours before you can get the abortion. All states require some type of parental involvement like consent or notification.

In Poland, their abortion laws were among the strictest in Europe, Abortions would only be allowed in cases of i*cest, r*pe, or if the mother’s health is at risk. Poland is one of Europe's most heavily Catholic countries, but there was no public complaint about this. Bishops and Catholic lay groups pressured the governing Law and Justice party to force a stricter law. Malgorzata Szulecka, a lawyer for the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, told the BBC: "This is a totally unjustified decision that will lead to inhuman treatment of women."

Having people capable of carrying a child in one's country and not giving them an option to abort the child is entirely selfish (whether or not it's because they know they cannot take care of the child). No one knows what that person is going through or what they went through. The person who is carrying the child should be the only person to have a say in what they want to do-- whether it is an abortion, adoption, or keeping the child. If you have the capability to carry a child and are reading this, you can be pro-life for yourself, but it is only right to be pro-choice for the rest of society. Abortion bans will not stop abortions; it just leads to unhealthy abortions, which can put the person who is carrying the child at risk.
